Description
Posted Breed: Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Burke! Burke entered Baldwin Park Shelter as a stray. When he wasn't claimed, we scooped him up on December 16th to become a Frosted Face. Burke is around 10 years old and weighs 10 lbs. He is very sweet and gentle. A volunteer took Burke on a solo outing, and he earned a rave review for being very calm, riding nicely in the car, and walking nicely on leash. Burke happily settled in her lap and enjoyed affection. Burke is currently on a two-week Frosted Fling, and we received a great first update from his Fling Mom: "Burke has met tons of people and liked all of them, including kids. He just wants to be held and petted and gives the cutest little kisses. We got him a harness and he is walking much better. I gave Burke a bath, and he was perfect. He let me do his nails and wash and brush him out. He is doing great in the crate. And he is very quiet even when other dogs are barking. Everyone is a big fan of this little man!" Check back soon for the next update! Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
