Description
Dog Breed: Shepherd / Mixed (short coat). Turk, an athletic 5-year-old shepherd mix, is a walking contradiction. He clearly wants to connect with humans but just doesn’t know how. His default behavior is to bark, move forward, bark and move back, all the while wagging his tail. He starts to approach when other dogs do but then shies away. This guy needs someone who can help him overcome his fears and accept the love he desperately wants. Turk is good with the other dogs in his pack, although he does bark at newcomers to the rescue. Once he’s been out with them a few times, he’s fine. He’s healthy, neutered, current on vaccines, heartworm-negative and on monthly prevention. If you have the time and patience to work with this beautiful dog, we believe he will blossom. His adoption fee is just $100. Email info savethestrays for more information or an application.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
