Looking Glass Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3) virtual rescue, using a network of dedicated fosters throughout the Northeast to care for our animals until adoption. You may be required to travel if approved for adoption. Meet Luke, a lovable and active dog ready for adoption! This very handsome boy is an absolute joy to have around according to his foster mom. Luke is right around 75 lbs, more short and stocky than having that BIG Dog look, and he is just happy as can be. According to his foster mom, he's a perfect companion for both your remote workdays and outdoor adventures. Luke is well-behaved, enjoys playing fetch, and responds positively to training with treats. He truly loves his toys but they need to be sturdy otherwise they are history! He is friendly with other dogs, we are saying no to homes with cats because he believes small creatures are for chasing, and we are recommending older children - over 10 or dog savvy, due to his weight. Luke is housebroken and does well in his crate. He also walks well on a leash and is learning not to pull when excited (for example, on the way to the dog park which he loves). He he may need some training around bicycles and motorcycles - things that make big noises, but he's a wonderful pet overall. Luke is looking for a forever home filled with love, activity, and lots of playtime. As with all new pets, Luke will need to time decompress and adjust to his new surroundings, but he will be your best friend for life! Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
