Description
Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed (short coat). Peanut is a typical 1 year old puppy. He is playful and active, so another dog with a similar personality woyld be great, or older kids. He will need someone to teach him to dos and donts of puppyhood. WE ARE EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THAT PEANUT COMES WITH FREE TRAINING WITH ROSIE DANE DOG TRAINING! Thanks to the Pedigree Foundation, we are able to work with the trainers at Rosie Dane Dog Training to pay for a 10 week Novice Training course once adopted. More details available upon request! If you would like to make Peanut a part of your family, fill out an application at .barktownrescue PEANUT'S ADOPTION FEE IS $170 The shelter software system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of our dogs we are only guessing at the dog's predominant breed or breed mix. We strongly encourage you to select your new pet by looking at each dog's individual personality and pet qualities rather than relying on a breed label that is only our best guess. Our adoption fees vary from $150 and up. All of our dogs are up to date on vaccines, heart worm preventives, and flea/tick medication, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Portions of your adoption fee also help care for the sick and injured animals that we take in. Thank you for supporting us and considering a rescue dog!

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
