Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Hey, I’m Polar. I’m a 2 year old, 55 pound terrier mix. I am 24 inches at the shoulders and 29 inches at head height. I am ohhh so sweet and such a joy to have around. I am learning to leave the resident cats alone. I take a bit to warm up to dogs who try to boss me around. I do okay on a leash. I am kennel and potty trained. I came from a shelter in Mexico where I spent almost a year waiting for my forever home but it never came. I think I will have better luck here. I am absolutely enjoying the cooler weather. I love love love being outside. I listen very well and have already caught on to “leave it,” “look,” “lay down” and “wait.” I have very good recall. My family in Mexico abandoned me and I was waiting for them to come home for two weeks. The rescue realized they weren’t coming home and I was taken in and saved. I have learned to gain confidence inside the home and have become super comfortable. I had hip dysplasia. The doctor decided to remove the balls at the top of my legs to help with pain. Hardwood floors and stairs are a challenge. I’m trying to figure out how to not slip and slide on them. Dog socks have been helping. Aside from taking things slowly in the house, I am an absolute angel (most of the time.) I never chew anything, even my toys unless they’re really crinkly. I just carry my toys around like they are my prize. I love playing ball but don’t always love giving you the ball. I will throw the ball to you or for myself sometimes. I am super treat motivated and have learned the words “go to your room” and “night night.” I will go right in. I am a very silly boy and would love to have a family of my own. I am currently on pain meds and wear a brace sometimes to help with my legs. Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, Alter, Prepaid microchip, Dewormed, Rabies vaccine (if age appropriate), Distemper combo vaccine(s) appropriate to age, Bordetella vaccine, 4DX (over 6 months of age), Flea/tick and heartworm preventative while in rescue. Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
