Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Baron (AL) is a male medium sized Hound mix estimated to be 4 weeks old at the time of intake in early May 2024. Baron is up to date on core vaccinations (age-appropriate) and is microchipped. He will be neutered prior to joining his forever home unless there is a medical reason why it has not yet been completed (in which case RDR NYC will work with the adopter to ensure this is done at the appropriate time). Baron is good with people of all ages, including kids, other dogs and even cats. Baron is a handsome, happy fellow who was ripped away from his Momma and dumped at a shelter at just 4 weeks of age. But we think Baron knows that his future is now filled with nothing but love and happiness with his forever family. Baron is a sweet boy who loves playtime with his foster canine and feline siblings and snuggle-time with his foster humans, including the little humans! He'd happily follow his people anywhere. Baron loves to snuggle and chew his bones, but greeting his people when they get home is his favorite thing of all! A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics.
