Description
Dog Breed: Hound / Terrier / Mixed. {s1550code1114/} {s1550code1111/} {s1550code1113/} Opal is a gentle, energetic sweetheart available for adoption. She is the perfect mix of youthful energy and couch dog and is just as happy running around playing ball in the yard as she is hanging out with the family watching a movie. Opal is well behaved, crate trained, and great with kids. She is dominant with other dogs so a home where she is the only dog would make her happy. We don't know how shw would be with cats, but she is very curious about them so a home without cats/kittens might be best. She is was fostered around two small children and did very well with them. She is a very loving dog who is quick to bond and really wants a forever home.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
