Description
Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever / German Shepherd Dog / Mixed. Meet Yeti! Breed: Lab/Shepherd Mix Estimated DOB: 10/15/2023 Sex: Male (neutered) Weight: 55-60 lbs Currently up to date on all age appropriate vaccinations Things To Know about Yeti: Yeti was rescued with his 5 littermates in Mississippi after growing up in a small outdoor pen While with TLC for the last year+, Yeti has been learning how to live life as a housedog in a foster home, but he is still unsure about new humans. He continues to make progress through counter-conditioning & desensitization. Our friends at Metropolitan Veterinary Associates and their Vet Behaviorist, Dr. Hauser, have been working with Yeti to help him learn that the world isn't such a scary place. Yeti loves his trusted people and is affectionate once he feels safe and comfortable He has the silliest, goofiest personality Making progress with desensitization to human touch, visiting new places & meeting new people Walks well on leash in familiar areas but can still be skittish with sudden movements or loud sounds Rides well in the car Will do best with older kids/teens who are respectful of his space In addition to couches and dog beds, Yeti has discovered the perfect chill-out spot in the empty bathtub when he gets overwhelmed - his own personal zen den! Enjoys running around outside and will benefit from having a fenced in yard Toy enthusiast who enjoys playing with stuffies and bones Very food motivated and absolutely smitten with cheese Crate trained and sleeps comfortably in his crate overnight Housebroken Dog friendly - If you are looking for a friend for your dog(s), Yeti is your guy! He will need a home that has at least 1 other dog to help show him the ropes He currently lives with multiple male and female dogs of various ages and sizes Cat friendly - uninterested in the cat he met Looking for a loving and committed forever home to provide him with the care and love he deservesLearn more and apply to adopt at TLCrescuePA/adopt Interested in fostering? Breed overview
Overview:
The Sheprador, a popular crossbreed resulting from the union of a German Shepherd Dog and a Labrador Retriever, embodies many desirable traits from both parent breeds. Originating from designer breed efforts to combine the intelligence of the German Shepherd with the Labrador's friendly disposition, these dogs typically boast a medium to large build with a dense, weather-resistant coat that can range in color. Physically, they often exhibit the Shepherd’s strong bone structure and the Lab’s kind eyes. Temperamentally, Shepradors are generally intelligent, loyal, and trainable, making them excellent companions for active families. They thrive on human interaction and do best in homes with a yard, as their energy levels make apartment living challenging without significant daily exercise. While generally healthy, potential health considerations include hip and elbow dysplasia, common to both parent breeds, and eye conditions. Early socialization and consistent training are key to fostering a well-adjusted Sheprador.
