This smart, eager-to-learn boy has been with us for almost a year, and he’s more than ready to find his forever family. Life in a kennel hasn’t been easy for Casper—he sometimes shows signs of “kennel syndrome” from being here so long. But step outside the rescue, and he’s a completely different dog! On the trail or strolling through downtown Blue Ridge, Casper lights up with joy. He loves going on hikes, exploring new places, and sharing adventures with people he trusts. Casper is great with kids and enjoys being around other dogs with proper introductions. He’s intelligent, trainable, and thrives when given guidance and activities that engage his mind. After a day of play, this boy transforms into a total snuggle bug, happiest curled up beside you, soaking in affection. Casper has waited far too long for the loving home he deserves. The Boxerhoula is a captivating crossbreed resulting from the union of a Boxer and a Catahoula Leopard Dog. Originating from the desire to combine the best traits of both parents, these dogs typically possess a striking appearance, often showcasing the Catahoula's unique merle coat patterns or the Boxer's fawn and brindle. Physically, they are medium to large, muscular dogs, with an athletic build and expressive eyes. Temperamentally, Boxerhoulas are known for being intelligent, loyal, and energetic. They tend to be protective of their families, making them excellent watchdogs, but require consistent training and socialization from a young age due to their strong prey drive and potential for stubbornness. While affectionate with their families, their high energy levels and need for ample exercise make them less suitable for apartment living; a home with a yard and an active lifestyle is ideal. Potential health concerns include those common to their parent breeds, such as hip and elbow dysplasia, certain cancers, and deafness, particularly in merle individuals.
