Posted Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). The dogs Arcadia Animal Rescue saves are mainly located in southern states, such as NC, SC, TN and TX. We can transport to most states, through partner networks. Virtual meet n greets can be arranged for all non-local adopters. Meet Boomer! Boomer, a very cute 9 mth old puppy, possibly a Terrier mix, found himself in an overcrowded kill shelter in NC, through no fault of his own. Record numbers of owner surrenders in shelters across Southern states, has resulted in shelters euthanising healthy pets daily, to free up kennel space. Boomer is still only a puppy, yet he was one of those healthy pets put on the euthanasia list, just to free up kennel space. Our rescue saved him, got him into a foster home and now ready to go to his furever home!! This cute pie may only be a puppy but he greets new people well, sits on command and is well behaved in general. He is treat motivated but also very gentle taking treats. Boomer loves his walks and does have that high puppy energy, ie very high energy!! So he will need lots of activity, physical and mental exercise! A home with kids above aged 12, due to his exuberance and tendencies for smaller children to leave lots of little plastic toys laying around! Still working on housetraining! Give the guy a break, he's only just being shown how to do it but he's picking up quick!! Boomer is a real gem to be honest, any family would be lucky to have him. Due to record number owner surrenders this year, we have zero foster homes available. Fostering helps save another pup from euthanasia in an overcrowded kill shelter needing to free up a kennel. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
