Description
Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed. Summers County Humane Society Meet Dexter. This happy boy was found in a rural area and dropped off at a county vet. No one ever came to claim him, after weeks of searching for his owners. Now he is available for adoption. This handsome American Foxhound is ready to play! He will run and play until his tongue falls out. He loves car rides, especially if they end with a good romp at the park. He gets along well with other dogs and cats. With his good looks and happy personality, he’s sure to make someone very happy. He is completely house trained! He can be nervous around certain men - we believe he was mistreated by a man before. Dexter needs a family who will allow him to open up and get comfortable but can enforce strong boundaries when needed. We require a meet and greet before adoption. Please help him find his forever home. Please sponsor me! The only place we accept sponsor donations is via our website at .acwp-wv - please go there and click Donate if you wish to sponsor one of our pets. Thank you for your support! Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
