Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Hound / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: $300. Honey requires an approved Best Friend Pet Adoption application The link to our application is in the dogs bio below. Honey is a beautiful 5 year-old Hound mix girl who weighs 50 pounds. Honey is completely housebroken and crate trained! When she needs to be crated, she willingly goes into her crate. She sleeps in her fosters bedroom since she no longer needs to be crated at night. Honey's activity level is low to moderate. Honey will do best with a fenced yard. She enjoys her walks but needs to be walked when there are not many dogs to encounter along the way. She can be dog reactive and needs an experienced dog owner. Honey would not be a good fit for a first time dog owner. Honey lets you know when there are others around. She will bark to alert her human, so she would not be a good fit in an apartment or other multifamily homes where there would be noise from adjacent homes. Honey is used to having a person around the majority of the time. So if her new humans were home most of the time, she will be happy. She is a cuddle-bug who loves to hang with her human! Honey is friendly but first-time meetings sometimes may require some treats. If there are children in the home, they should be older teenage children who have respect for animals. She should to be the only dog in the house but would be fine with a cat sibling. Honey loves attention from her people. When Honey trusts you, she will lay on her back for belly rubs. She is very smart and has learned many basic commands. We are working with a trainer to further her training. Honey likes to play with toys. She loves to give her paw to you to show affection. She loves to hang with her human! Honey is a truly special pup! Applicants must live no further than one hour from Raleigh/Cary NC as our dogs must be seen by a BFPA veterinarian /volunteer for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized. EVERY DOG HAS A STORY: Honey was found as a stray and taken to a NC shelter. BFPA took in Honey and shortly after found out she was pregnant. She gave birth to 10 puppies. Honey took great care of her puppies who have all been adopted. Now it is Honeys turn to find her forever home. Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
