Description
Dog Breed: Cocker Spaniel. Lewistown, PA Meet Bluey. He is a gorgeous one of a kind Cocker Spaniel boy who is deaf. He was born in July of 2024. He can be quirky and needs a very special home with no small children. He can be moody when he is tired. He will need a home where there is patience and understanding in his training as he cannot hear commands. His foster dad has worked on teaching him some basic commands through signing. We require a home with a secured fenced in yard to keep him safe because he has no recall to come when called too. Bluey can be a true sweetheart when he wants to be but otherwise independent. He seems to enjoy the company of a larger dog in his current foster home and will sleep in bed with his people. Experience with a deaf dog would be an ideal adopter for Bluey and someone home most of the day as he does not enjoy the confinement of a crate. Thank you for considering adoption through ODAAT. Our dedication to our animals goes beyond finding them a home; we aim to match them with families where they will thrive and receive the love and care that they so desperately deserve. We believe in finding not just homes, but forever families for our beloved animals. Our thorough adoption process is designed to ensure that each furry friend finds the perfect match based on their unique needs and personalities. Please know that we do not rush this process, as we prioritize compatibility over speed. Overview:
The Cocker Spaniel, a beloved breed with roots in the United Kingdom, was originally bred as a gundog to flush out woodcock. They are instantly recognizable by their medium size, typically weighing 20-30 pounds, their luxurious, often wavy coat (which comes in a variety of colors), and their long, expressive ears that frame their gentle, eager-to-please eyes. Known for their merry and affectionate temperament, Cockers are generally good-natured, intelligent, and relatively easy to train, making them an excellent choice for families with children and even first-time dog owners. While adaptable, their moderate exercise needs can be met with daily walks and playtime, making them suitable for apartment living as long as they receive sufficient mental and physical stimulation. Prospective owners should be aware of certain health considerations, including ear infections (due to their long ears), eye conditions like cataracts, and hip dysplasia, which highlight the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary check-ups.
