Description
Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever. Biscuit is a yellow lab pup who was saved from euthanasia at Downey Animal Care and placed with a foster in Northern California back in April 2023. He LOVES going to the dog park every day with his foster brother (a golden retriever) and his foster mom Cathi. He is considered the official "greeter dog" at the dog park. He would do well in a home with another friendly dog and would also make an excellent family dog. Biscuit is friendly with people of all ages and walks well on leash. He is under two years old so he still has puppy energy but is eager to please. Biscuit is available for meet and greets in Northern California and also available to adopters outside of the area who are interested in adopting him. He is healthy and active. He is neutered and up to date on his shots. Interested in adopting this pet? Please contact us at questionsawishforanimals for more info.

Overview:
The Labrador Retriever, a beloved and highly popular breed, originated in Newfoundland, Canada, where they were initially bred to assist fishermen by retrieving nets and stray fish. Physically, they are medium-to-large dogs, known for their strong, athletic build, short, dense, weather-resistant double coat (commonly seen in black, yellow, or chocolate), and their distinctive "otter" tail. Temperamentally, Labs are celebrated for their friendly, outgoing, and good-natured disposition, making them exceptional family companions. Their intelligence and eagerness to please contribute to their trainability, though they do require consistent exercise to prevent boredom and destructive behaviors. While adaptable, their energy levels make them more suited to homes with yards, or highly active families, rather than apartment living, unless daily extensive exercise is guaranteed. Regarding health, Labs can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, and some eye conditions, so responsible breeding practices are crucial. Overall, their loyalty, versatility, and affectionate nature firmly establish the Labrador Retriever as a wonderful addition to many households.
