Description
Dog Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Adoption Fee: $150.00. Meet Panther! Hi! My name is Panther. I’m an almost 9-year-old male chihuahua. Being an older gentleman, I’m a little set in my ways. I like food, the occasional walk/sprint in the backyard, and a nice cozy blanket. If someone is snuggled with me in the blanket, that is even better! I take a minute to feel comfortable with people, but once I warm up, I think I’m pretty easy. Older kids would be better for me since I can be a little jumpy. I’m really good with other dogs but I don’t love cats. I sleep in my crate at night like a champion and sometimes during the day when my foster parents are at work. I know how to use a doggy door, but my foster mom says I need a potty-training schedule so that I don’t have accidents. Maybe she just doesn’t understand my cues yet. I blame her. If you want a salt and pepper cutie that is out of the puppy stage, apply to meet me at bit.ly/RRAdoptionApplication.

Overview:
The Chihuahua, a captivating breed known for its diminutive size, boasts an ancient and somewhat mysterious origin, with most theories pointing to Mexico as its birthplace, potentially descending from the "Techichi," a small companion dog of the Toltec civilization. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their small, compact bodies, large expressive eyes, and erect ears, appearing in both smooth and long-coated varieties, showcasing a vast array of colors and markings. Despite their tiny stature, Chihuahuas possess a big personality; they are often described as spirited, alert, and fiercely loyal to their owners, sometimes displaying a bold and confident demeanor. While their small size makes them exceptionally well-suited for apartment living, they thrive in homes where they receive ample attention and mental stimulation. They can be good family pets for older children who understand how to interact gently with a small dog, but their delicate build makes them less suitable for boisterous toddlers. Regarding health, Chihuahuas can be prone to certain conditions like patellar luxation, heart problems, and dental issues, making regular veterinary check-ups crucial for their well-being.
