Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. Figaro (AL) is a male Terrier mix, estimated to be 18 months old at the time of intake in November 2024. Figaro is up to date on core vaccines and is microchipped. He will be neutered prior to joining his forever family unless there is a medical reason why it has not yet been completed (in which case RDR NYC will work with the adopter to ensure this is done at the appropriate time). Figaro is great with people, more mellow dogs and he is good with cats. This very cool looking guy ended up in a shelter before finding his way into rescue. He is suffering from a skin infection that has caused his fur to fall out, and he has a severe case of cherry eye. Our veterinary partner will fix Figaro up and we can't wait to see how even more handsome he is once his fur grows back! Figaro is a goofy, sweet, friendly boy. If you would like Figaro to join your family, please apply online to adopt Figaro (AL) at .rescuedogsrocknyc. Given technical constraints on this dtabase, this pet's location may not be as listed here. We can, however provide transport support for pets in foster at a considerable distance from the adopter.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
