Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Lima bean had a really rough start in life. He was 1 of over 50 dogs living in horrible conditions. Since being removed, he has received vet care and is slowly learning people petting him is ok. He still quivers initially but is starting to realize it is not a bad thing. He has no idea how to play or what toys are. Walking on a leash is a very scary thing. He is a work in progress that needs a quiet home that will continue to slowly work with him so he knows he is safe. He may never be a happy go lucky dog that is excited to see people but he will learn a soft bed and chew toy are good things. Lima bean needs a calm, quiet house. He won't do well with children but another dog to help him learn how to be a dog might help him trust quicker. Lima bean is in a foster home so if you are interested in adoptiong, please fill out an online adoption application at colonycats/adoption_app.html to expedite the process. Due to the large number of inquiries we receive, we are unable to respond to emails quickly.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
