Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. Cali is a spirited 2-year-old pit mix with a heart as big as her boundless energy! If you’re looking for a playful companion who will keep you smiling, Cali is your girl. This enthusiastic pup loves nothing more than an afternoon of playing with toys and romping around the yard. But when playtime is over, Cali is ready to settle in for some serious cuddles. She’s a pro at snuggling up and once settled will happily lounge nearby. Cali thrives around kids and is happiest when surrounded by a family to play with and love. She also enjoys the company of other dogs, but due to her passion for food, needs to be the only pet in your home (or with someone who can handle resource guarding between dogs). Cali plays well with other dogs when there's no food around. She has enjoyed park walks with multiple dogs during her time with us. Despite the past few months being very challenging, Cali's resiliency and sweet nature shines through. Her family lost their home in Hurricane Helene, and she had been living in a car. Since coming to us, Cali is working hard to decompress and learn all she can. She will excel with an active and patient family who will keep her engaged through walks, playtime and training. Please note that visual breed identification of companion animals has been proven to be unreliable, so for most of our animals we provide a best guess at predominant breed or breed mix. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
