Description
Dog Breed: Dachshund / Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). *** Kiddo is currently in a foster home in New Jersey. Applications for Kiddo should be submitted at socorescue (no need to Register or Login). Questions about Kiddo and/or our adoption policy should be sent to socorescue8gmail; please do not call the rescue's number.*** Her foster mom writes: She needs time to decompress from living at the rescue but she is smart and picking up on the routine. Not completely house trained but no accidents in past 2 days. She loves playing, going for walks (good on the leash too) and cuddle time. Kiddo is adorable with short legs and a long body and has the dachshund personality: spunky, curious, devoted, protective. Whenever we go out, she wants to go with us and does great in the car. If we are on the couch, she is right there, can be a couch potato but also gets the zooms. She lets you know when anyone walks in the house. (I told the kids they won't be able to sneak out now that she's here-LOL.). When she was in GA, Kiddo was the staff favorite! She is so sweet. She is outgoing and loves attention. In GA she enjoyed playing with her friend Kasey but out of the shelter she doesn't seem to be as dog friendly. It could be that she just needs to decompress but we just want to play it on the safe side & say no other dogs and she would be happy with that. She just wants her human to love her! Kiddo's former owner left her and her siblings at a local pet store during an adoption event with a "Free Puppies" sign attached to their crate. While the owner never returned to pick up the pups at the end of the day, he did leave information about the puppies on a flyer, which listed their date of birth and that they were Dachshund/Lab mix. The staff of the pet store struggled with the thought of having to simply leave the pups outside their store, but didn't have any other option. Luckily for the pups, Scott Bennett, President and CEO of SoCo Rescue, was shopping at the pet store just before they were scheduled to close for the day. Upon hearing of the pup's, Scott offered to take the pups to SoCo Rescue. Kiddo's siblings immediately caught the plane to New Jersey. Not enough room for Kiddo so she has waited a while for her chance. Despite living at our rescue for an extended time, Kiddo has remained very affectionate and playful. She is now ready for her forever true home! Kiddo has been spayed and kept up to date on all of her vaccines, de-wormings and preventative care. Her recent heartworm test came back negative and she appears to be a very healthy dog. She will most likely require additional house and other basic training.

Breed overview
Overview:
The Dachsador, a charming crossbreed of the Dachshund and Labrador Retriever, originated from the desire to blend the playful spirit of the Lab with the distinctive build of the Dachshund. Physically, they are incredibly diverse, often displaying the longer body of the Dachshund with the more robust head and sometimes webbed feet of the Labrador. Their coat can vary widely in color and texture, from short and smooth to longer and denser. Temperamentally, Dachsadors are generally friendly, intelligent, and affectionate, making them wonderful companions. They can be good with families, though early socialization is key, and their energy levels mean they thrive with regular exercise. While adaptable, their size can range from medium to large, influencing their suitability for apartment living; a home with a yard is often preferred. Potential health concerns can include those common to their parent breeds, such as back problems (Dachshund) and hip/elbow dysplasia or eye conditions (Labrador), necessitating responsible breeding and veterinary care.
