Description
Dog Breed: Presa Canario. Our big hunk Ramsey is still looking for his forever home. He is a 3yr old 130lb Presa Canario. He has been great with every person he has met. He loves to play tug, chew on benebones and sleep in bed with his people at night. He is potty trained and kennel trained, although once settled in a new home he is fine being left out of his kennel. He currently lives in a foster home with other dogs and does fantastic with them. He will need slow intros being introduced to new dogs. He would do best in a home with no small dogs or cats as he does have a high prey drive. He is quite the goofball, his absolute favorite toy is a metal bowl that he likes to carry around and will push it around with his giant paws like he is playing soccer. He is the biggest love bug and loves to cuddle. If you are interested in Ramsey then please submit an application at .4paws4rescue

A.K.A.: Canary Mastiff, Perro de Presa Canario, Dogo Canario, Canary Catch Dog, Presa, Canary Dog, Spanish Presa Canario, Presa Perro, Catch Dog, Presa Canario Mastiff, Canary Island Mastiff
Overview:
The Presa Canario, also known as the Canary Mastiff, is a large and powerful breed originating from the Canary Islands of Spain, where it was historically used for guarding livestock and property. Physically, they are imposing with a mastiff-type build, a broad head, and a short, dense coat typically in fawn, brindle, or black. Temperamentally, a well-socialized Presa Canario is known for its calm, confident, and loyal nature, making them devoted protectors of their family. However, their strong protective instincts and size mean they are generally not recommended for first-time dog owners or apartment living, requiring experienced handling, extensive socialization from a young age, and a secure, spacious environment. While generally robust, they can be prone to common large-breed health issues such as hip and elbow dysplasia and certain heart conditions, necessitating regular veterinary check-ups and a high-quality diet.
