Description
Dog Breed: Unknown breed. IN VERMONT Meet Ferda aka Katniss! Ferda is 5 1/2 years old, female (approx. DOB 9-12-19), 62 lbs., vetted, is or will be spayed, and micro-chipped. Ferda is beautiful! In her current foster home she is potty trained, crate trained (good in her crate) and knows commands Sit and Wait. She has done well in a daycare/playcare setting with other dogs in a pack setting. She is not a chewer nor destructive, loves belly rubs, under the chin rubs, playing in the snow, walks, and would love an experienced rural home with no cats, older kids,, and active family. Stay tuned for more information as Ferda is a new rescue! If you are interested in Ferda please fill out an Application at .Passion-4-Paws (please make sure you have the Vermont site not CT) - thanks! Please note Fosters have 1st option of Adoption. Check out her Facebook page (please "Like" us while you are there)! Disclosure: Breed labels are often incorrect: we rarely know the genetic lineage of the dogs we rescue. Many shelters and rescues specify breeds based on appearance; however, research has shown that less than 2% of a dog’s DNA determines appearance! Passion 4 Paws does not practice the use of labels pertaining to compatibility with others or dog breed. Labels such as “dog friendly” and “child friendly” should be used with caution as they often over-simplify the personalities and behavior of dogs.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
