MEET DOC: Doc is an incredibly smart pup—you can see it in his eyes! He's eager to please and always looking for positive feedback from his humans. At the same time, he has a strong personality and Doc likes to be in charge and can be a bit assertive when meeting other dogs, but he is great with people. Once he gets settled, though, he’s all about fun and play! With his high energy, Doc will need some training to help him understand his boundaries. But he's super intelligent and motivated to learn. While he hasn't had much exposure to cats or large livestock, a slow introduction would be best. Doc already knows at least five basic commands, is housetrained, and crate-trained. Since he’s food-driven, training with treats should go smoothly. Doc would likely do best as the only dog in the home, at least initially. Thinking about inviting Doc into your home? Give us a call at (406) 446-3500 or visit .beartoothhumane to kick off the adoption adventure!

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
