Description
Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed. A HAPPY COMPANION: Approx. 5 years old / Approx. 35 lbs. Hi, my name is Maverick! I found myself at animal control, but – thankfully – Mostly Mutts was able to rescue me and start me on the journey to my new family. The shelter volunteers are taking great care of me, but – boy, am I looking forward to having a home of my very own. I’m currently in the prison/foster training program off-site and learning a lot! Please inquire at 770-272-6888 to find out when I’m available to meet. • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I recently met dogs at Mostly Mutts, and I was friendly and playful with them. If you have a nice doggie at home already, let’s meet and see if we can be pals. / Cats unknown. / I haven’t met kids yet at Mostly Mutts, so let’s meet and best no toddlers that I may bump over. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I LOVE people and want to spend all of my time with them nearby, which can make me a bit of a tripping hazard, so let’s be best friends! A stay-at-home family member is what I need as I do get anxious when left alone for long periods. I’m described as a sweet and playful guy with a fun, friendly nature. I come out of my kennel excited to see the volunteers and ready to go, but I settle down for a nice walk. I’m curious and let my sniffer lead the way! Known for my goofiness, especially in my photo session, I am sure to make you smile. / My energy level is 5-7. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I’m a proud graduate of the Mostly Mutts University training program so I’ve learned the ‘sit’, ‘stay’, ‘down’, ‘come’, ‘drop it’, ‘leave it’ and ‘place’ commands. I also use proper door etiquette and have good leash manners as well as accept nice strangers without jumping. / I had good crate manners in the prison/foster training program. / My potty habits have been good on the shelter schedule, so hopefully that will be the case in my new home, too. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I like to be with people and do some exploring so since I am an easy walker, perhaps we can hit the walking trails together! I’ve not shown much interest in toys at the shelter, but perhaps you can show me how much fun they can be, and we can play together. I have not been hyper, but I do love to play! / I don’t like being left alone for long periods, otherwise I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and neutered. I’m taking an inexpensive anxiety medication for some separation anxiety that I’m experiencing when my people are away and it’s helping. I have mild tartar on my teeth, so my adoptive family should consult with their vet and consider a dental cleaning in the future. I am looking for a wonderful home where I will be a cherished family member! My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
