Dog Breed: Siberian Husky (long coat). *** This dog is a courtesty post and is not at the animal shelter *** Courtesy Post: Dakota Needs a Loving Home Dakota is a beautiful 5-year-old Siberian Husky in great health. She is very playful, energetic, and loves attention—sometimes she jumps on people out of excitement, but she just wants to play and be loved. Dakota is sweet, loyal, and full of puppy-like energy. She is not aggressive at all, is toilet trained, and has lived with kids. Unfortunately, her owner can no longer keep her due to a housing issue. This is a courtesy post—Dakota is not at the shelter. All animals are up-to-date on vaccinations (including rabies if over 4 months old), microchipped, and spayed or neutered. All dogs have been been vaccinated with DHPP and Bordatella (kennel cough) and heartworm tested negative (if over 6 months). All cats have been vaccinated with FVRCP and current on flea control. Overview:
The Siberian Husky is a striking and beloved breed, originating from Northeast Asia where they were bred by the Chukchi people for pulling sleds over long distances in harsh conditions. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their medium size, thick double coat (available in various colors and markings), and often captivating blue or bi-colored eyes. Their temperament is typically friendly, outgoing, and playful, making them generally good with children and other dogs. However, their independent and sometimes stubborn nature, coupled with a strong prey drive, means consistent training and secure containment are essential. While affectionate, their high energy levels and need for significant exercise make them less suitable for sedentary lifestyles or tiny apartments; a house with a securely fenced yard is often preferred. Health-wise, they are generally robust but can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia and eye problems such as cataracts and progressive retinal atrophy. Overall, a Siberian Husky thrives with active families committed to meeting their exercise and mental stimulation needs.
