Description
Dog Breed: Yellow Labrador Retriever (short coat). Toast is an 8-month-old sweetheart with a heart full of love and a playful spirit! This adorable pup was found living under a shed, but she’s now thriving in her foster home and ready to find her forever family. Toast is potty trained and already knows a few tricks like sit and down—she’s a smart cookie! She’s still working on curbing her excitement, so she’ll need some guidance with jumping and gentle nibbling. She loves playing with her buddy Apollo but can get a little nervous in a big group of dogs. Leashes aren’t her favorite thing, but once she’s on one, she walks beautifully! She’s a bit shy around kids at first but warms up quickly with a little patience. Toast is currently eating 2 cups of Grandma Mae’s dry food (AM and PM) and enjoys a good toy-shredding session—but don’t worry, she hasn’t had any incidents eating anything other than her toys! She’s also starting to get the hang of fetch, though she can easily get distracted by all the exciting smells around her. Toast is spayed, up to date on all vaccines, crate trained, and healthy. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
