Description
Dog Breed: Cattle Dog / Mixed. To complete an adoption application, click here: /forms/form?formid=5879 Ham is looking for her forever home! This sweet girl was saved from euthanasia when one of our fosters stepped up to give her a place to land. She grew up in a shelter environment with her brother (who we also saved and he's been adopted). It's been a bit hard for her to adjust to living the life of a loved indoor pup but she's doing great! She quickly bonded with her human foster mom and her canine and feline foster siblings but has been fearful in new environments with new people, not reactive or anything, just very timid. She has been going to doggy daycare to build her confidence outside of the home and with other people. She loves it and has made a lot of friends there, both human and canine! We think she'd do well in most homes that will give her time to adjust but her ideal home is likely one with another young, playful dog who is confident. She does great with cats too! We're pretty sure she is part heeler as she has some of the characteristic physical and personality traits of one. She is about 10 months old and weighs around 35 lbs. Please share to help us find Ham her forever family! To complete an adoption application, click here: /forms/form?formid=5879

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
