Description
Dog Breed: Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 200. Meet Stone, a six-year-old German Shepherd mix with a heart as big as his paws and a personality that’ll steal yours in an instant. This sleek, dashing gentleman is on the lookout for a forever home—a place where loyalty, companionship, and love are the foundation of his next great adventure. Originally from Texas, Stone made the journey to Minnesota in 2021 in search of a better life filled with head scratches and snuggles. He found his first home in 2022, but life threw some curveballs, and now he’s back on the market, ready to meet his perfect match. Stone is a total people-pleaser who thrives on being your sidekick. Whether you’re out exploring or just enjoying a quiet day at home, he’s happiest by your side. With a nose like a detective and a sharp mind to match, he finds joy in sniffing out all the interesting smells life has to offer. Bonus: he’s a self-proclaimed guardian of yards, ensuring no critter overstays its welcome. When it comes to other dogs, Stone gets along best with laid-back, low-key companions. Cats, on the other hand, spark his inner chase instinct, so a feline-free home would be best. Stone is also a foodie at heart, which makes him eager to learn and incredibly treat-motivated—he’ll work hard to impress you if there’s a snack involved! Stone loves to stay close to his people but also respects your space (your shoes and belongings will remain untouched under his watchful eye). He’s a snuggle pro, a certified “Lap Dog” enthusiast, and an excellent nap buddy during downtime. While he’s been crate-trained in the past, he much prefers a cozy spot nearby with the door wide open. Stone does his best to adapt to life’s changes, and he takes medication to help with his anxiety, especially during transitions. But with a loving, stable home and someone to remind him he’s safe, his confidence will continue to grow. If you’re looking for a loyal, fun-loving, and endlessly devoted companion, Stone might just be your perfect match. He’s ready to be your new best friend—are you ready to be his? Stone is from Texas. Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
