Adoption Fee: $500.00. ____________________________________________________________ Coordinator-Jeanine Daugherty Radish is a 1 year old, spayed, female malinois located in the Chicago, Illinois area. She is fully vaccinated and heart worm negative. Radish is a confident, energetic girl who loves nothing better than exploring the woods with her canine friends. She is social with both humans and dogs, although she still has that puppy exuberance, so she will need a patient adult dog as a playmate. Radish has a high prey drive and is not suitable for a home with cats or other small animals. Radish has some baggage from her previous life so a home well versed in positive reinforcement is a must. Radish has learned to have a good off switch once she has been exercised and is content to take a nap or chew on a toy. Radish has dabbled in agility, canicross and some tracking/scent work and would enjoy any or all of those sports. She is an affectionate girl who loves her pets. Radish has some handling sensitivities that have diminished with management and training, which is why a home in the northern Illinois area is preferred. That way she will be able to continue private lessons (at no charge) with her foster, a professional dog trainer. Radish needs an active, experienced home. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
