Description
Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever (short coat). ***The first step in the adoption process is to complete the application at .emmetcountyanimalshelter*** This is Gracie a sweet, mild mannered senior and certified super snuggler! Gracie is in foster care with the ECAS after her human had to go to a nursing home. Gracie was born blind but we feel she can see shadows and has done a wonderful job navigating her new surroundings. In foster, Gracie has been enjoying outside exercise time, inside play time and lots of couch cuddling. She has also been working on dropping a few excess pounds in an effort to gain back her girlish figure and maintain a healthy heart. Gracie is housetrained and has proven she doesn't require a kennel when left alone. She rides nicely in a car but doesn't love it. She can load and unload fine however she needs a little help with a boost for her rear end. She walks well on lead and seems to love all she meets. Gracie can manage a few steps in and out of the house but a whole flight of stairs does seem to be too tricky for her to manage. Gracie is vocal which is likely due to her keen sense of hearing and will let you know if someone or something is amiss outside. She does have a foster brother and while she doesn't love sharing the love she understands it can't be all about her all the time. Gracie is spayed, up to date on vaccinations and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $200.00 Are you looking for a cuddle buddy? This squishy 7 year old love bug might be just the right fit!

Overview:
The Labrador Retriever, a beloved and highly popular breed, originated in Newfoundland, Canada, where they were initially bred to assist fishermen by retrieving nets and stray fish. Physically, they are medium-to-large dogs, known for their strong, athletic build, short, dense, weather-resistant double coat (commonly seen in black, yellow, or chocolate), and their distinctive "otter" tail. Temperamentally, Labs are celebrated for their friendly, outgoing, and good-natured disposition, making them exceptional family companions. Their intelligence and eagerness to please contribute to their trainability, though they do require consistent exercise to prevent boredom and destructive behaviors. While adaptable, their energy levels make them more suited to homes with yards, or highly active families, rather than apartment living, unless daily extensive exercise is guaranteed. Regarding health, Labs can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, and some eye conditions, so responsible breeding practices are crucial. Overall, their loyalty, versatility, and affectionate nature firmly establish the Labrador Retriever as a wonderful addition to many households.
