Description
Dog Breed: Belgian Shepherd Malinois. Fraya was saved from an abandoned animal shelter in Hemet, CA. We have no idea how long she was left there to starve and eventually die. Fraya is in desparate need of a long term foster home. There were other dogs there with Fraya, so we assume she is good with other dogs at this time of intake. Fraya loves food and accepts treats very gently. She is timid of humans and is easily startled by noises. She did extremely well at her first vet visit. We will update Fraya's information as we get to know her. We are an official 501C3 organziation that does not have a physical location. Our home address is in Michigan, however, the majority of our dogs are not located in Michigan. We do provide transport assistance, however, the applicant must drive 50% of the total distance of the transport. The information that we have available is in our posting. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
