Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. Zircon (AL) is a male Terrier mix estimated to be 10 weeks old at the time of intake in March 2025. Zircon was rescued from a shelter where he was suffering from a painful skin infection that has caused all of his fur to fall out. But he's being treated by our veterinary partner, and we can't wait for Zircon to reveal how gorgeous he is as his fur grows back. This little cutie pie is a happy, funny boy, and he can't wait to shine for his forever family. Zircon is up to date on core vaccinations (age-appropriate) and is microchipped. He will be neutered prior to joining his forever home unless there is a medical reason why neuter has not been completed (in which case RDR NYC will work with the adopter to ensure it is completed at the appropriate time). Zircon is good with people of all ages, other dogs and cats. His adoption fee is $575. If you are Zircon's forever person, please apply online to adopt Zircon (AL) at .rescuedogsrocknyc. Due to technical constraints on this website, this pet's location may not be as listed here. We can, however, provide transport support for pets in foster at a considerable distance from the adopter.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
