Description
Dog Breed: Belgian Shepherd Malinois. Adoption Fee: $550.00. ____________________________________________________________ Daria Adams/Brittney Berger Stray, very under weight. Meet Julius – A Loyal, Loving Belgian Malinois Ready for His Forever Home (18 months, male, fostered in SC) Julius is an 18-month-old Belgian Malinois with a heart full of love and a strong desire to be close to his humans. This intelligent and affectionate boy has shown great progress in his foster home, proving himself to be a well-mannered companion with excellent house manners. He is crate trained, never has accidents in the house, and eats his meals in his crate using a mini muffin pan to slow him down. Julius is highly food-motivated, making him an excellent candidate for further training. While he has a strong prey drive, he is not dominant, making him a great fit for activities such as tracking, agility, barn hunts, or even therapy work. His foster believes he could excel in search and rescue, scent detection, or even as a professional couch potato! Julius has shown a reserved but thoughtful approach to new people. He recently met a generator maintenance worker and handled the interaction with curiosity and composure. While he gave one initial bark at the stranger, he immediately took direction from his foster and observed calmly. He did not display aggression or fear, even with prolonged eye contact, demonstrating his trust in his handler’s judgment. This behavior highlights his ability to be an excellent companion in a home that values a protective but level-headed dog. However, Julius does not have the temperament for bite work or high-pressure protection jobs—he is far too mild and focused on his people. Due to his past, Julius does have some sensitivities. He flinches at sudden movements and cowers when objects like a cane are knocked over, suggesting he may have suffered abuse before coming into rescue. He is also still learning proper play boundaries and working on not using his teeth on human skin during playtime. Because of his jealous streak with small animals, Julius should go to a cat-free home and is best suited to a household without small children. However, he would thrive in a home with adults or teenage children who understand his need for structure, patience, and love. His ideal family will allow him to be close to them—whether snuggling on the couch or resting contentedly on his dog bed nearby. Julius is a devoted and loving dog who is ready for a family that will cherish him and provide the stability and companionship he craves. If you’re looking for a loyal, intelligent, and affectionate Malinois who wants nothing more than to be by your side, Julius may be the perfect match for you. Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
