Description
Dog Breed: Shepherd / Mixed. Hayden is a young Shepherd mix who was found in the desert and is now thriving in a safe environment. Though he was once feral, Hayden is making great progress in overcoming his shyness. He’s still a little unsure around strangers but will come when called, showing his growing trust in people. At full maturity, he’s currently 55 pounds. Hayden has been vaccinated, microchipped, and dewormed, ensuring he’s in good health. He still needs help learning to walk on leash. He’s looking for a calm, patient home where he can continue to build his confidence and form strong bonds with the right person or family. Hayden may be shy at first, but once he feels safe, his sweet and loyal nature will shine through, making him a wonderful companion for someone willing to give him the time and care he needs. Please apply to foster or adopt Hayden!

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
