Dog Breed: Belgian Shepherd Malinois. ____________________________________________________________ Coordinator: Carol Aulick COURTESY POST Ali is a sweet 8 yo female currently located in Arizona. She is vaccinated and spayed as well as microchipped. Ali is from the Pima County Shelter in Tucson AZ (PACC) and she is currently in foster care. Her foster describes Ali as a very well balanced dog. No major behavioral or health issues observed. After only 10 days in foster care, she has learned all her basic obedience including off leash healing and recall. Calm at home and can stay on place/ crate for prolonged period. Will bond closely with the owner. Integrated well with the foster's personal dogs. Ali is very willing to work and learn and could do well with less physically demanding sports, given her age. Definitely would appreciate a home that can provide physical and mental activity. Ali LOVES hiking and was a stellar hiking partner. She meets lots of people at the foster's work place and she stays neutral. Ali is a gem! Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
