Description
Dog Breed: Yellow Labrador Retriever / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: TBA. “Kia” is a good girl, She loves leash walks and to be pet. She was already spayed when she was rescued so her history is not known other than she was taken to the local kill pound for unknown reasons. A guess would be that she had been a stray and unwanted by the finders. Too many times a rescued pet is a mystery and we have to start from scratch and build a story based on what we see. We estimated her to be around 1-2 years old and seems like she may have been leash walked at sometime during her life, and taught to "sit." She has gotten along quite well with her kennel mate, a younger, high energy dog but would still need to be tested with other dogs in a home before final adoption, first. Approriate acclimation time would be necessary just to be sure of a good match. But so far, she get's an "A" for her toleration of an extremely high energy kennel mate who can be a handfull.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
