Description
Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever / Border Collie / Mixed. Meet Floppy – a tender-hearted soul with a playful spirit and so much love to give. Floppy is a shy, sensitive pup who’s learning the world can be a safe and joyful place—and every day, his sweet personality shines a little brighter. He’s a happy, playful, and loyal companion who is starting to trust that love is here to stay. Around new people, Floppy is curious. He’ll quietly approach to sniff, then hang out near them onnthe couch, soaking up gentle affection. He absolutely adores other dogs and finds comfort and confidence in their company—his favorite pastime is zooming around the yard and wrestling with his furry friends. Floppy is working hard on his training and doing great with potty habits, especially when things feel calm and secure. He knows “no,” “leave it,” and “outside,” and is learning “sit”—as long as he’s relaxed enough to focus. His foster family is helping him manage his anxiety when left alone, and he’s making steady progress with patience, structure, and love. Crating for short periods is okay, but he does better in a dog-safe space when unsupervised. This boy has the heart of an adventurer—he loves being outdoors, chasing after balls (even if he doesn’t bring them back), and playing with plush toys (which he proudly un-stuffs!). His cautious side means he may take a little time to adjust to new things, but once he feels safe, his joyful, affectionate nature takes over. Floppy is looking for a home that understands sensitive souls, one that will give him the time, reassurance, and companionship he needs to truly thrive. In return, he’ll give you endless loyalty, snuggles, and those special moments that only come from earning a shy dog’s trust. If you're the kind of person who finds joy in watching a dog blossom, Floppy just might be the perfect pup for you. Floppy was rescued from a high kill shelter in Texas. Meet and greets are by appointment only. An approved application is required to schedule a meeting. Check out our events page for upcoming open adoption events! We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time. When we do, it will be updated here. This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above. Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. Dogs adopted with our rescue come with FREE training from #GoodPup to help you build strong bonds from the start! If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free pet insurance. We are not affiliated with MetLife pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect). Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico. While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances. More questions? Read our FAQs here: 4p4l/faqs/ Breed labels are a "best guess" by a shelter veterinarian and cannot be guaranteed. A new study has concluded that (in layman's terms), breed assumption is NOT indicative of behavior in mixed breed dogs. Therefore, if a dog looks presumably to be a German Shepherd breed, one cannot assume the dog will have a high prey drive. From the study: "Although many physical traits were associated with breeds, behavior was much more variable among individual dogs. In general, physical trait heritability was a greater predictor of breed but was not necessarily a predictor of breed ancestry in mutts. Among behavioral traits, biddability—how well dogs respond to human direction—was the most heritable by breed but varied significantly among individual dogs. Thus, dog breed is generally a poor predictor of individual behavior and should not be used to inform decisions relating to selection of a pet dog" - .science/doi/10.1126/science.abk0639
