Description
Dog Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Maple was found as a stray running near Riverside ave in Ewing, NJ. She arrived in our care severely emaciated, lactating and had poor skin. She was not reclaimed and we were able to get her into much better health while in our care. Maple has the sweetest underbite and loves to roll over for belly rubs and give kisses. She has not been a big fan of dogs her size but enjoyed playing with a puppy she met. She’s been fairly uninterested in the kittens she’s met other than a lick here and there. She enjoys going for walks and army crawling through the grass. Despite the horrible condition and lack of care she was provided before arriving to us, she has completely forgiven humans and loves everyone she meets. She loves stuffy toys, especially ones that squeak, and snuggling up in her dog bed at the shelter. Adoption by appointment only with an approved adoption application. Please go to .easelnj/adopt to submit an adoption application. Someone will be in touch within 48 hours.

Breed overview
Staffordshire Bull Terrier
A.K.A.: Stafford, Staffy, English Staffy, Staffie, Nanny Dog
Overview:
The Staffordshire Bull Terrier, affectionately known as a "Staffy," is a robust and agile breed originating from 19th-century England, bred for its strength and courage. Physically, they are compact and muscular, with a broad head, pronounced cheek muscles, and a short, smooth coat that comes in various colors. Despite their powerful appearance, Staffies are renowned for their affectionate and gentle nature, particularly towards children, earning them the nickname "nanny dog." They are intelligent, highly trainable, and thrive on human companionship, making them excellent family pets. Their relatively small size and moderate exercise needs mean they can adapt well to apartment living, provided they receive daily walks and mental stimulation. Generally a healthy breed, they can be prone to certain conditions like L-2-Hydroxyglutaric Aciduria (L2HGA), hereditary cataracts, and patellar luxation, so responsible breeding practices are crucial. With proper socialization and training, a Staffy will be a loyal, devoted, and entertaining companion.
