Description
Dog Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier. Fiona is a low-rider Staffordshire Terrier mix (we think there is some bulldog in there too!) looking for a home. She is about 2 years old and was found as a stray, wandering a municipal field for several days before being captured. Fiona is obedient and sweet but takes a minute to warm up. Once she feels safe she enjoys belly rubs and any affection she can get! Fiona loves to play with stuffy toys and will even go in our doggy pool in the yard. She appears to be housebroken and is clean in her kennel. She is crate trained and enters her crate very willingly. Fiona has met other dogs and has done very well with both males and females alike. She can be reactive towards dogs on leash, but in the play yard she has been a dream. Stress from the shelter is causing her too much anxiety so we would love to find her a home ASAP. If interested in adding Fiona to your home please apply here --> .easelnj/application-dog/ Adoption by appointment only with an approved adoption application. Please go to .easelnj/adopt to submit an adoption application. Someone will be in touch within 48 hours.

Overview:
The American Staffordshire Terrier, often affectionately called an "AmStaff," is a breed with a fascinating history, originating in 19th-century England and later refined in the United States. Physically, they are medium-sized, muscular, and agile dogs, known for their powerful build and distinctive wide smile. Their short, stiff coat comes in a variety of colors and patterns. In terms of temperament, AmStaffs are generally intelligent, confident, and highly loyal to their families. They possess a strong desire to please and can be quite affectionate. While they can make excellent family companions and often get along well with children, early socialization and consistent training are crucial due to their strength and inherent protective instincts. They are adaptable and can thrive in various living situations, including apartments, as long as they receive adequate daily exercise and mental stimulation. Health-wise, they are generally robust, but some individuals may be prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as certain heart conditions.
