Description
Dog Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier. Phoenix is a shy but happy boy who enjoys going for walks and cuddling up in his dog bed. He is about 50lbs and 2.5 years old. Having come in as a stray originally by animal control, he has had quite the glow up over these last few months. From being riddled with mange and skin infections that caused constant itching, to a handsome and dapper guy, Phoenix is just as his name describes! He has an endearing smile and truly loves his people. In his temporary foster home he enjoyed lounging in his bed or the couch, trying new snacks, and soaking up any attention he could get. He appears to be quite the ladies man, preferring the company of women over men. He is not the most confident dogs and new things sometimes scare him but he will willingly jump in the car with you and go on adventure... you just have to take the wheel for him. Phoenix would thrive in a home with structure and routine as well as low foot traffic. He really is a sweet boy and definitely a shelter favorite (shhh, don't tell the others!) he just needs a chance. Overview:
The American Staffordshire Terrier, often affectionately called an "AmStaff," is a breed with a fascinating history, originating in 19th-century England and later refined in the United States. Physically, they are medium-sized, muscular, and agile dogs, known for their powerful build and distinctive wide smile. Their short, stiff coat comes in a variety of colors and patterns. In terms of temperament, AmStaffs are generally intelligent, confident, and highly loyal to their families. They possess a strong desire to please and can be quite affectionate. While they can make excellent family companions and often get along well with children, early socialization and consistent training are crucial due to their strength and inherent protective instincts. They are adaptable and can thrive in various living situations, including apartments, as long as they receive adequate daily exercise and mental stimulation. Health-wise, they are generally robust, but some individuals may be prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as certain heart conditions.
