Description
Dog Breed: Terrier. Meet Mae! This sweet and spunky girl came into the shelter on 3/13/2025 with a pelvic fracture. While we were told crate rest was the recommended treatment, we haven’t received official medical records to confirm. What we do know is that Mae has completed her rest and pain meds—and she’s already up, walking, and ready to make up for lost time! Full of energy and excitement, Mae loves to jump, explore, and soak up every bit of love and attention. She did great with another female dog during her time with us and has shown herself to be a total sweetheart. Mae would thrive in a foster, rescue, or adoptive home where she can continue to heal and enjoy life to the fullest!

In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
