Name: Stefana Best Guess for Breed: Wirehaired Pointer/Terrier Best Guess for Age: 2.5 yrs as of April 2025 Gender: female Approximate Weight: 45 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen them with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living At: Our South Carolina rescue campus Special Adoption Considerations: Stefana is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs. All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care. After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months. She landed in the shelter through no fault of her own and is oh so eager to once again have her own humans for sniffy walks and all the adventures they can dream up. And to make new pup and people pals along the way! What she wants most of all, though, is to love and be loved, to know where she belongs, to know she's under her own roof every time the sun goes down.
