Description
Dog Breed: Hound / Terrier / Mixed. Chonk is a handsome, playful brindle boy full of love. He is 2 years old and around 60 pounds. Even at his young age Chonk had cataracts and could not see. PAW had his eyes repaired - he is on the mend and learning all about his bright new world. His limited vision made him tentative and he remains so upon meeting new people but once he warms up, he is goofy, sweet, and wonderful to be around. Chonk loves walks, time in the yard, and running zoomies. (Watch the video to see Chonk in action!) He is patient, smart (knows sit and learning down), and eager to please. Chonk is crate trained and housebroken. Chonk is very social, good with other dogs and people. He loves treats (peanut butter being his favorite!), music, and ear scratches and nose rubs. Chonk is an oversized lovebug. He will make a wonderful addition to any family, including a family with a dog as he has been fostered with other dogs. Chonk urgently needs a new foster - can you be the person to help him learn to adjust to the world now that he can see? PAW supports fosters with all supplies and training.

Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
