Description
Dog Breed: Great Dane. LOCATION: San Antonio, TX DOB: 11/16/2024 Transport is available nationwide for the perfect family! Dottie is a spirited blue Merle Great Dane puppy whose journey is as inspiring as her charming personality. At just 6 months old, Dottie has already faced more challenges than many dogs do in a lifetime. Surrendered by a breeder at only 7 weeks, she was born with a genetic malformation of her spine, which affected her back legs and left her significantly smaller than her littermates. Because of her disability, she was separated from the rest of her family, a difficult start for such a young pup. When Dottie arrived at her foster home, she could barely stand, but her feisty spirit shone brightly. It didn’t take long for her foster family to recognize her determination; Dottie wanted nothing more than to be part of the action. They immediately set to work helping her strengthen her legs through a series of gentle exercises. They encouraged her to stand while eating and motivated her to take small steps to reach her food. Within just a few days, her will to thrive became evident, and her progress was truly heartwarming. Dottie is a testament to resilience. She has made incredible strides in her physical abilities and learns new things every day. One of her proudest moments came when she discovered how to hop up onto the couch and bed all by herself, a joyful achievement that reflects her growing strength and confidence. As she continues to grow, Dottie has already gone through two wheelchairs, adapting her mobility aids to suit her needs. Dottie’s journey has not been without its medical challenges. She has undergone X-rays of her spine and hips and consulted with a neurologist, who confirmed the genetic malformation affecting her spine. Although this condition has posed obstacles, Dottie is now starting physical therapy, focusing on building her strength, balance, and mobility. Her foster family is committed to supporting her as she develops, ready to adapt her care as necessary. With her sweet and playful demeanor, Dottie captures the hearts of everyone she meets. Her determination is unmatched, inspiring those around her to appreciate the power of resilience and love. As she continues her journey, Dottie reminds us all that with patience, support, and a fierce spirit, anything is possible. Overview:
The Great Dane is an impressive and regal breed, often dubbed the "Apollo of Dogs" for its dignified stature and noble appearance. Originating in Germany, where it was historically bred for hunting boar, this giant breed is renowned for its immense size and striking presence. Physically, Great Danes are characterized by their tall, muscular build, short coat (available in various colors like fawn, brindle, black, blue, and harlequin), and expressive eyes. Despite their formidable size, they possess a surprisingly gentle and affectionate temperament, making them wonderful family companions. They are known for being patient with children and generally get along well with other pets. While their size might suggest otherwise, Great Danes can adapt to apartment living if provided with sufficient daily exercise, as they are not overly energetic indoors. However, prospective owners should be aware of certain health considerations, including a predisposition to bloat (gastric dilatation-volvulus), hip dysplasia, and certain heart conditions, necessitating careful breeding and regular veterinary check-ups. Overall, a Great Dane offers a loving and loyal addition to the right home.
