Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (long coat). Jesse's story started out rough - left tied to a business door as a tiny pup, he was rescued and brought into the loving arms of OURS family. We thought he'd found his forever home that promised love and loyalty...but unfortunately, their "forever" ran out too soon. Jesse is back with us now, and he's proving that resilience is kind of his thing. He's settled in beautifully and is showing us (yet again) what a sweet, adaptable, and easygoing little guy he is. He's between 20-25 pounds of slightly chunky charm and gets along wonderfully with other dogs - especially those that match his mellow, friendly vibe. He'd thrive in a home with another canine pal his size to buddy up with, but he's just as happy soaking up human attention, too. Jesse's got a heart that keeps bouncing back, and we're determined to make sure the next "forever" really means forever. Ready to be Jesse's true ride-or-die? A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
