Description
Dog Breed: Beagle / Mixed (short coat). Meet Tank - 100 lbs of charm in a 16 lb package! Tank is an adorable 7 year old beagle mix who still looks and acts like a puppy! Tank stayed with Volunteer Linda for 4 weeks as he recovered from heartworm treatment. Tank is now ready for his new life to begin! Here is what Linda has to say about living with Tank: “Tank is a sweet, smart and happy boy almost all of the time. He loves to be near you even when he is taking a nap. He loves to go on walks or just sit outside in the sun. He rides nicely in the car. Each time we had company, our friends kept saying what a wonderful dog he is. The same with people we meet on walks. Tank has his triggers and becomes very excited at those times. His triggers are other dogs he sees on walks, sometimes cars and if you try to take away a large high value treat he has hidden. He needs training for the first two and we can just leave the treats where he has hidden them. He has never shown any resource guarding with his regular meals or small treats. Regarding other dogs, a few times he was sweet to other dogs in the kennel, and I saw him walk with another dog, so I do think he will respond well to training. Occasionally when he’s dozing off, he just wants his space and will let you know with a low growl. He loves belly rubs, snuggling under blankets and playing with toys especially his neon colored bats. Tank keeps his crate clean but I put belly bands on him in the house. He accepts the bands very well and they are very easy to put on. I may have jumped to conclusion about the need for belly bands as his first day he peed in the house. It may have been a first day thing claiming his space. I have tried a few times without the bands and so far so good. I use a harness because he pulls when excited. A younger or stronger person should have no trouble (I’m 80 w lots of arthritis), but I always like to use a harness anyway. I had fostered Tank for 4 weeks and he was very happy here - and I with him. I wish I could keep him but unfortunately I can’t. I do love him. Won’t you consider making this boy part of your family? Volunteer Linda Donohue” In her earlier report, Linda notes: Tank has lots of energy and got the zoomies in the house. He rarely barks! Tank enjoys playing with toys and being with people. Whenever he sees someone, his little tail starts wagging. He’s very alert on walks. He likes to listen to the birds and other animal sounds. He’s inquisitive and smart. He likes sleeping burrowed under a blanket. When we took a nap together, he scooted right under my quilt and stayed there for an hour.
