Description
Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed (short coat). wagoninn.rescuegroups Ruby is a sweet 6-year-old hound mix whose owner sadly passed away. She’s now in a loving foster home in NJ and ready to find her forever family. Ruby is the perfect mix of playful and chill. Her mornings usually start with breakfast (whenever her people get up), a quick walk, and 5–10 minutes of fetch (her all-time favorite game). That’s all it takes to burn off her energy. After that, she’s happy to snooze on the couch or work on a frozen Kong or bully stick while you go about your day. In the afternoon she’ll go out again if someone’s home, but if not, she can wait until after work. Evenings are for dinner, a walk or another round of fetch, and then one last potty break before bed. She sleeps soundly through the night on the couch. She’s house trained, walks nicely on leash, rides well in the car, and is an all-around sweetheart. Ruby absolutely loves people and being outside, and she’ll never turn down a chance to chase a ball. She’s also great with kids, though older ones might be best since she can get a little bouncy when excited. Ruby does well with other dogs in public and isn’t reactive on leash. She doesn’t live with another dog now, but when friends bring their pups over she’s been perfectly fine, even with food and treats around. Before coming to her current foster, she stayed with family who already had two dogs and a bird. In that home, she sometimes guarded food or toys, so she may do best as your one-and-only dog, or with an experienced owner who can manage separate feedings and toys. She’s definitely not into birds, and we’re not sure yet how she feels about cats. Ruby would love a home that’s a mix of active and chill. She’s fun, loyal, low-maintenance, and always ready for fetch when you are. Ruby is fixed, microchipped and up to date on vaccines. Her adoption fee is $300. How to Adopt Me! Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
