Dog Breed: Cattle Dog / Mixed. Meet Maggie! This reserved girl came to WAG in a litter of six in December 2023. After several months at our Halfway Home Ranch, we thought we'd found Maggie's forever home. Unfortunately, that was not the case and she came back to us in October 2024. In the time that Maggie has been back, we see that she really needs reassurance from a similarly sized confident dog to thrive. Maggie did not have human interaction for the first couple of months of her life, so it takes a long time to build that trust with people in her life. This trust is built more quickly when she sees another dog's reactions. Despite being so timid, we are seeing Maggie's personality blossom. She enjoys walks in WAG's garden, playing with toys, and puzzles to mentally stimulate her. Maggie's ideal home will have a securely fenced yard, no children, someone that has the time and patience to build her trust, and a medium sized confident dog that she can take cues from. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
