Dog Breed: Belgian Shepherd Malinois. Dumped to Die in Redland, FL, Baxter just got to his temp foster and we are assessing what other medical treatment he will need. He has a sweet temperment despite the pain we know he is in. Baxter trapped in the Redlands with 2 other dogs and a litter of puppies. 4/26/25 Details: #MADLovesBaxter Male malinois Currently fostered with medical foster in South Florida. Seeking longterm foster or adopter. HW negative (yeah for the small win!) Broken leg middle part of bone with partial healing. Open wound/possible chance of gangrene. The plan: On antibiotics to see if we can save the leg. If not, amputation is the final step. Thank you Animal Medical Center in Lauderhill FL for helping MAD and giving us a discount. We rarely receive a discount and you made our AC almost jump off of her couch when she heard this. She shouldn’t be jumping by the way. Coughing, sneezing, possible UTI (heck, the hits keep coming….) Good teeth (the win for those of us in the South that appreciate good dental care) Not housebroken but telling medical foster when he needs to go outside A bit mouthy but understands “easy” when hand feeding 1st day in Medical foster care: Likes men and women, ignores small barking dogs that charged Baxter while he was on leash (perfect gentleman). Saw a cat on the walk, ignored it. Foster heard Baxter say “I see you Putty Tat, you may be on your own trying to survive like I did and I respect that/I understand” Very affectionate and kind (when have you heard the word “kind”when it comes to a malinois) The pool brings back some bad memories, and makes him run off to avoid it. Today not a dock diving dog but that is OK. What Baxter Needs: Help with his medical fund. Today we are trying the antibiotics, good food, love, safety to see if we can save the leg. But if an amputation is needed Baxter said to remind everyone that choppy chop of the back leg is better than chopping the front leg. Show us those tripods to demonstrate. And living is much better than the alternative. Permanent foster or adopter by mid March. The reason MAD was able to pull Baxter is because we had the preliminary steps in place. (Gloria trapper, foster, adoption counselor). We need help with the next steps.
