Description

Dog Breed: Feist / Australian Shepherd / Mixed. PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet. 9/6/25 I’ve dreaded making this decision because it’s going to make finding a home very hard, but Betty will be best suited as the only dog in the home. She is fine meeting other dogs when out for walks. Needing to be an only dog means she needs lots and lots of SHARES. She can NOT stay in her foster home forever. This is a long post, I'm sorry, but Betty deserves the best home ever and I want to put all the info out there! -While she is currently fostered with other dogs, there are some issues. I’ll explain further down in this post. First, the good- -House trained and crate trained -Loves kids and loves people in general. -Enjoys being outside and going for walks. She pulls on the leash so that is something that she needs to work on. She'd make a great hiking/running/walking partner. -She is smart, active, spunky, agile, fun, and fast! She could likely do some agility work if someone had the time to work w/ her on it. -She is a perfect size dog at 30 pounds and is full grown. Her estimated DOB is 8/18/24 making her 1 year old. -She is beautiful and one of the most photogenic dogs I've every fostered. Speaking of that, I have SO MANY MORE PICTUREs & VIDEOS! SO many lol Just message us and I will send you videos and more pics if you'd like to see them! -We were told that Betty's dad is a Mountain Feist/American Coonhound mix and her mom is an Australian Shepherd. Betty very much seems to have the traits and characteristics of the Mountain Feist breed. She doesn't shed a lot which is also characteristic of the feist. -She has made great progress with car rides while living w/ her foster. She gets a little nervous in the car but continues to make progress! -Cats-I don't think she would do well in a home with cats. -She has a lot of energy and can be vocal at times when she is trying to express her wants/needs. Apartment life would not work for Betty. -She loves to play with toys and loves to play fetch, though she doesn’t always bring it back. It's more like you throw the ball, she chases it, picks it up, and carries it around until she's ready for you to throw another ball. She loves to drag big sticks around and chew on them. -She knows sit and is working on stay. She does not have very good recall. She can be very independent. -A fenced yard will likely be best for her due to her energy and lack of recall, but this can be negotiable depending on the situation. -She went camping and to the ocean this summer. She wanted to greet everyone that walked by her. She quietly sat and watched people walk by the campsite, wagging her tail eagerly, just hoping they would stop and say hi to her! She loved the morning beach walk too. She loves people so much! While she does love people, she's not much of a cuddler. She'd prefer to sit next to you on the couch but not in your lap. Other dogs- She currently is fostered with 3 other female dogs. She has not been around any male dogs just because her foster doesn't have any nor does the extended family Betty visits. Dog 1 in the foster home- Great Dane mix, 110 pounds, pretty laid back. Betty LOVES this dog and gets along so well with her. They play tug of war and wrestle each other. There have been NO issues between Betty and this dog (knock on wood). I'm not sure if it's Dog 1's size or her personality or what but Betty loves her. Dog 2, Lab mix, 55 pounds, can be assertive and somewhat reactive. Betty gets along with her most of the time, however, Betty will try to pick a fight with Dog2. Betty seems to know that she can get Dog2 to react. It's almost like Betty wants to get a reaction and wants to start a fight. Dog 3, Lab mix 60 pounds, can also be assertive and bossy. Betty got along great with her at the beginning. They played a lot together. They had a fight about a month ago and since then they can not be together. They are currently separated when inside. Again, Betty wants to pick a fight with Dog3. For about a month earlier this summer, Betty stayed with another family while her foster had some things going on in life. There was a dog in that home whom Betty had gotten along with but they ended up having a fight and now she can no longer be around that dog either, because she wants to fight that dog. In reading that you might think, "ok she's dog selective" or "ok she can live with other dogs since she currently lives with dogs" but the major problem is that when Betty goes into "fight mode", it's like she sees red and nothing matters except getting to that dog and she gets very feisty. She is small but mighty. It becomes a safety issue for all involved. It's also very hard to tell with Betty because as with all the dogs she's lived with, she initially gets along with all of them...until she doesn't. ❣️Betty is truly an amazing dog and she is very, very loved in her foster home but she can't stay here forever. Please consider this wonderful girl. In New England She is spayed, UTD on age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, and on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.
