Dog Breed: Feist / Australian Shepherd / Mixed. PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet. Betty needs an adopter ASAP! She is not the easiest dog as she is high energy and has what I’d call a little bit of little man syndrome. At times she barks a lot and will drive you nuts, other times she’s quiet. To clarify, she doesn’t just bark all day. She barks when she wants something and isn’t getting what she wants. She will bark at people when she wants attention/wants something or she’ll bark at the other dogs if she wants them to play or wants them to go outside with her. The current issue is that she has started picking fights with the dominant, older dog in her foster home. Betty IS GOOD with other dogs, but can be reactive to dogs who challenge her. I honestly do not know what we are going to do. Foster will crate and rotate but this is not a long term solution. Dogs with no “issues” are taking forever to get adopted, nevermind dogs with any “issues”. We’re defeated. Please share. Here’s all her info- She is the perfect size dog at 25-30 pounds! Betty HER STORY- An elderly person had got Betty from a backyard breeder situation when she was a puppy. They decided Betty was too much for an older person, and put her for free on Facebook. Free puppies is never a good thing, so we stepped in and took her before she ended up in a bad situation or bounced from home to home. BREED- We were told that Betty's dad is a Mountain Feist/American Coonhound mix and her mom is an Australian Shepherd. AGE-estimated DOB 8/18/24 making her almost 10 months old. SIZE-Betty is only about 25-30 pounds and is full grown. She may fill out a little but that's about it. She is the perfect size! She is house trained and crate trained!! She LOVES other dogs!! Her only issue is that if a dog challenges her/growls at her, Betty reacts. This can turn into a fight. Cats- She met a cat at the vet and was good. She sniffed him as he walked past (the cat ignored her completely). I think she’ll be just fine with cats. ENERGY/PERSONALITY- Betty is an energetic pup. She loves to play with toys and loves to play fetch, though she doesn’t always bring it back. She loves to play with other dogs. A fenced yard will likely be best for her due to her energy and lack of recall, but this can be negotiable depending on the situation. RIDES- Her owner had not taken her anywhere since she got her as a puppy. Due to this, riding in the car was a new thing for Betty but She rides pretty good now! She gets a little nervous and drools but she is much more comfortable with rides than when she came into rescue in April. Leash walking is getting better but needs more work. Her original owner never put a collar or leash on her, so these were new things when she came into rescue. She goes for walks around the neighborhood but pulls. KIDS- I have not had her around little kids. She does jump and occasionally nips (out of play) when she gets excited or thinks there is something in my hand that she wants (food, toys). She is not doing this aggressively in any way, she's just excited and it's probably a little bit of the Australian Shepherd in her. She did meet some 13 year old kids and was good with them. She seems to love people! She is food motivated! She is learning "sit" and we are working on not jumping which she is getting better with. She loves people and has the adorable wiggle but and tail wag when her people get home from work. She is a really cool dog! She could likely do some agility work if someone had the time to work w/ her on it. I have many videos of this girl too. Facebook won’t let us post pics and videos together. This includes microchip, spay/neuter, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, dewormings, flea/tick treatment, and heartworm test (if over 6 months old) as well as heartworm treatment if they test positive. There is a transport fee of $150 per dog, depending on the transporter. We use Pack Leaders Rescue Dog Transport most often, but also use Hearts Transport as well on occasion.
