Description

Dog Breed: Feist / Australian Shepherd / Mixed. PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet. 10/12/25 This post is not to guilt or shame people into adopting. It is reality. Behavioral euthanasia is on the table for Betty. I know this post will make people upset but please read before judging. This is Haley, I am her foster mom. I volunteer for the rescue and I foster. I took Betty in on my own doing in April. She was being given away on Facebook to anyone who wanted her, with no questions asked. I knew that it could put Betty in a very bad situation being given to just anyone, so I took her in as a foster. She was not spayed and had no vetting. I got her spayed, chipped, vaccines etc. We have 3 other dogs. I was told she was good with other dogs and to make a very long story short, she is extremely dog selective. When she fights with other dogs, it is very difficult to stop the fight and she has injured our dogs as well as injured humans when attempting to break up the fights. When she fights, it's as if she just sees red. I want to clarify, she is VERY VERY loving with humans. She ADORES children. She is not aggressive to people, but when she fights with other dogs, it is tunnel vision. She can go out on walks and meet other dogs without issue. I wouldn't stop and let her socialize with others too much, but she can walk past them with no problem. We currently have to keep her completely separate from one of our dogs and muzzled when she is around one of the others. It is not fair to Betty to be muzzled so much, It is not fair to my dogs to have to be separated. We also have to be very careful because it can easily cause a fight to ensue among our dogs-just this morning I accidentally let Betty in the same room as our other 3. Thank god she had her muzzle on and I was able to quickly remove her from the situation but it could have escalated very quickly. Here's the other thing. I regularly foster. There are thousands of dogs with no "issues" who need a place to go. I can't foster others while I have Betty and let's face it, Betty has been listed since April. I have made post after post. I made a post last week with over 300 shares and nothing. She's had countless posts on instagram. She's on petfinder and adoptapet. She's on Tiktok. And still she waits. How long can we justify keeping a dog in rescue who has to be an only dog when thousands who are very adoptable are being euthanized in shelters everyday, or are living on the streets, etc. Betty's life is worth no less than any of these dogs but what do we do? She can't stay in my home forever. There are very, very few people wanting to adopt dogs who need to be an only dog. There are even fewer people who want a dog who needs to be an only dog AND is high energy. Heck, there are very few people adopting dog friendly dogs right now. It breaks my heart to even consider euthanizing Betty and there are tears in my eyes as I type this. We love her very much and she deserves to live. She just can't live here forever. She is a fun dog. She had a very crappy start to her life with really no socialization or training at all, and I do believe she likely endured some abuse. For those who are mad at us for even considering this, I urge you to be mad at the reason dogs end up in rescues and shelters. Irresponsible pet owners. Pet owners who don't spay/neuter their dogs. Shelters are euthanizing dogs every single day because they are overflowing with dogs and they simply run out of space. Be mad at the reason the dogs end up there. Advocate for stronger laws in regards to animal welfare. If you know of unaltered dogs, encourage the owners to spay/neuter. But don't take it out on the rescues and shelters because we are all tired and doing the best we can. Betty's info- **REDUCED ADOPTION FEE** PLEASE SHARE! -House trained and crate trained -LOVES kids and loves people in general. -Enjoys being outside and going for walks. She pulls on the leash so that is something that she needs to work on. She'd make a great hiking/running/walking partner. -She is smart, active, spunky, busy, agile, fun, and fast! She could likely do some agility work if someone had the time to work w/ her on it. She can jump up off all 4 legs pretty high. We have a 5’ or 6’ fence and she has never tried to jump it. -She is a perfect size dog at 30 pounds and is full grown. Her estimated DOB is 8/18/24 making her 1 year old. -She is beautiful and one of the most photogenic dogs I've ever fostered. Speaking of that, I have SO MANY MORE PICTURES & VIDEOS! SO many lol Just message us and I will send you videos and more pics if you'd like to see them! -We were told that Betty's dad is a Mountain Feist/American Coonhound mix and her mom is an Australian Shepherd. Betty very much seems to have the traits and characteristics of the Mountain Feist breed. She doesn't shed a lot which is also characteristic of the Feist. -She has made great progress with car rides while living w/ us. She used to be scared and nervous but now jumps in on her own! She probably won't be an over the road trucker anytime soon, but she is starting to enjoy rides! -Cats-I don't think she would do well in a home with cats. -She has a lot of energy and can be vocal at times when she is trying to express her wants/needs. Apartment life would not work for Betty. -She loves to play with toys and loves to play fetch, though she doesn’t always bring it back. Chuck it balls are a favorite! She loves to drag big sticks around and chew on them. -She knows sit and is working on stay. She does not have very good recall. She can be VERY independent and bossy. -A fenced yard will likely be best for her due to her energy and lack of recall, but this can be negotiable depending on the situation. -She went camping and to the ocean this summer. She wanted to greet everyone that walked by her. She quietly sat and watched people walk by the campsite, wagging her tail eagerly, just hoping they would stop and say hi to her! She loved the morning beach walk too. She loves people so much! While she does love people, she's not much of a cuddler. She'd prefer to sit next to you on the couch but not in your lap. Other dogs-she needs to be an only dog but she is fine if you are walking and she passes by another dog. While being in rescue, she has proven to be very dog selective, we feel it would be best for her to be an only dog because of this. She's spent a significant amount of time around 5 other dogs while in rescue. Of the 5 she has proven to safely get along with only 2 of them WITH supervision to ensure everyone's safety. Betty is truly an amazing dog and she is very, very loved in her foster home but she can't stay here forever. Please consider this wonderful girl. In New England She is spayed, UTD on age appropriate vaccines, microchipped, and on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.
