Name: Zuri Best Guess for Breed: Shepherd/cattle dog mix Best Guess for Age: 1.5 years as of Feb 2025 SEX: female Approximate Weight: 42 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs!We haven't seen her with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters. Currently Living at: DC area foster home. Check out this video of Zuri: youtu.be/3xIDDkaDepg. Zuri is Looking For: Her forever family! This beautiful girl is out of her youngest puppy days but still has all that awesome young-dog energy. She's eager to have her own humans for long sniffy walks, romps in the park, and exploring the world - she hasn't seen nearly enough of it. She'd love to make pup pals along the way, too. Quality kibble, cushy dog beds, peanut butter-filled Kongs - yes, please. But you know what she wants most of all? To know where she belongs, to know she's safe and loved for all her days. What My Foster Says About Me: Zuri is a very sweet girl! She has a very gentle temperament. She is a bit shy in new environments and looks to her people or to other dogs for guidance and confidence. She is really great around people and other dogs and is learning to play with her toys. She loves her walks! She's working on learning "sit" and not to pull on the leash, both of which she is picking up on really fast. She's a smart girl! Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training. TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter. Breed overview

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
